Suggestions?

We always welcome suggestions for new topics on the Self Reliance Exchange. It’s one of the best ways to understand what our readers would like to see.

If you’re interested in making a suggestion or guest post, please contact Clair Schwan and DDFD at clairschwanandddfd at self-reliance-exchange dot com and express your interest including a suggested topic or theme. The opportunity to “shine” as a provider of a guest post are the same as our regular contributors. The quality and “solutions oriented” standards for guest posts are also the same.

Becoming a regular contributor is by invitation only.  The best approach is to start by being a provider of guest posts.  Generally we look for:

  • strong interest and ability in the broad field of self reliance
  • a track record of consistent quality posts
  • extensive archive of original articles
  • solid writing skills

I LOVE your site! I found it through your FaceBook page (I became a fan).

I would love to see a section on make-it-yourself recipes for things such as toiletries, household cleaners, laundry detergents, making soap out of goats’ milk, etc. Perhaps even a “Repurpose It’ section that could contain posts on how to stretch everyday items like soaps, candles, shampoos, etc.

I would also really be interested in seeing information on where to get the ingredients for the above with the least expense, i.e., fragrance oils, essential oils…I have recently started making my own soap but find the additives, particularly the scents, to be extremely expensive. There are no sources locally so I must get them online, which is not only costly for the items themselves but especially prohibitive when factoring in the shipping costs.

Thank you so much for putting this together and offering such a wide array of interesting, informative, and cost-saving articles. I’ve found so many ideas here that I want to implement right away that I hardly know where to start!

Thanks so much for the compliments and suggestions. We’ve worked hard to put this blog together and have enjoyed tremendous success in our first three months on line. We focus on quality articles with good “take aways” for our readers. Your comments show that we are achieving our objectives.

There is a “make it yourself” category with a couple of posts. I’m certain we’ll be creating many more of these articles as we continue to gain speed and build this online resource. Most of what you’re interested in from a standpoint of repurpose, reuse and recycle will probably be found under the “how to” category or “hints and tips.”

We continuously struggle with what categories to maintain. Since we’re trying to cover the very broad area of self reliance, the number of potential categories can get overwhelming. Our balancing act involves establishing meaningful categories for readers to find things easily, without such a narrow focus that would make the left sidebar too lengthy to conveniently sort through. We currently have articles in 55 categories and we have more than 20 other categories that as yet have no posts.

Your suggestions will be taken to heart and considered as new or modified categories for our library of posts. We like to be responsive to our readers.

Thank you again for your kind comments and thoughtful suggestions.
